Agreement grants low interest housing loans to the Displaced

September 29 2010

Minister of the Displaced Akram Shuhayeb signed with the president of the Banks Association, Joseph Torbey, the “Loan of the Displaced” protocol, in the presence of deputy Central Bank governor, Saad Andary, and other officials, at the headquarter of the association.

In his speech, Dr. Torbey said “… the protocol indicates that the banking sector in Lebanon not only serves the country at the professional level but also aims at fulfilling its national and civil responsibilities….. The Lebanese banking sector is once again proving its keenness to provide support to all segments of society and especially to those who are in a great need of financial assistance…… The loan is significant as it gives those displaced by the Civil War a loan for a 25-year period, at a reduced rate of interest, not exceeding 1.62 percent, allowing them to rebuild their houses…”

Minister Shuhayeb said that “…two objectives of the ministry are to ensure the reconstruction of the villages that were destroyed by the war and the launching of a development strategy that guarantees a productive life for people living in these areas…”
