BLOM Bank’s “The A List” Competition Grants USD 175K in scholarships and prizes to students

BLOM Bank has concluded ‘The A List’ competition, as part of “BLOM shabeb” program, held under the patronage of the Minister of Education and Higher Education, Mr. Marwan Hamadeh, represented by Dr. Vera Zeitouni, Mount Lebanon Educational Region Officer. This competition was a 3-day event that took place on February 9, 10, and 17, 2018. As a result, five Lebanese students in the first year of university were awarded scholarships amounting to 150,000 US Dollars. The winning students are Rawan Mohamad Diab, Ghiya Nassar El Assaad, Hagop Vartan Tashjian, Anthony Antoine Kahwaji, and Salwa Khaled Al Khatib.

Mr. Saad Azhari, Chairman and General Manager of BLOM Bank, welcomed the attendees and made a speech on this occasion highlighting the remarkable performance the students gave during the workshops and presentations as well as their high level of awareness towards social problems and their solution-oriented minds. Mr. Azhari also wished them a bright future ahead, filled with academic achievements.

During her intervention, Dr. Zeitouni congratulated the students and thanked BLOM Bank for this initiative which supports quality education and encourages Lebanese students to make their dreams come true.

As for the details of the competition, fifty qualified students were shortlisted and invited to attend the “Building Youth Capacity” workshop over 2 days, allowing them to acquire the skills needed to prepare for their desired career and achieve success in their field such as self-exploration, career orientation, and capacity building.

On the third day, all students were requested to give a presentation in front of a jury. As a result, five students won each a university scholarship of 30,000 US Dollars to cover their undergraduate studies, while 25,000 US Dollars were given out to all 50 participants. This initiative highlights once again the importance BLOM Bank places on education, the cornerstone of every prosperous society and a fundamental right for every person.
