Press Release - 7/11/2019

November 07 2019

The President of the Association of Banks in Lebanon Dr. Salim Sfeir made the following statement: “yesterday’s meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri falls within the frame of the continuous calls with all Lebanese leaders to discuss the ways of breaking the current crisis devastating the country. Many points were discussed, but none of the propositions made tackled the draft law related to the banking sector’s functioning aspects.

President Berri has already declared a “legislative revolution” to reform and develop some long-standing laws and promulgate new laws to reassure the Lebanese people and the international community, and show that Lebanon is serious about economic reform. As for us, we always called for such reforms and insisted on the need to update our laws in order to facilitate the mechanisms that encourage business and attract investment.”
