November 13 2019

A delegation from the Association of Banks in Lebanon held a meeting with the Federation of Syndicates of Bank Employees to discuss the means to address the reasons for which the Federation called for a general strike starting November 12, 2019. The Federation’s delegation raised two fundamental requirements: 1) provide adequate protection to maintain the employees and clients’ security and the safety of properties and assets in all bank branches, and, 2) establish a clear mechanism to deal with the clients that would facilitate the employees’ tasks. The Association’s delegation was understanding of the Federation’s proposition and promised to act as fast as possible, with the concerned authorities, in order to provide the adequate security conditions to resume the work in the banking sector. The Association’s delegation also promised to act to ensure the support of the relevant officials to the proposed mechanism of action. Meanwhile, banks will continue to meet the clients’ liquidity needs through ATMs and provide Call Centers’ services in order to respond to the clients’ inquiries and requests.
